My journey into the world of electronics didn’t start in a classroom; it started on my bedroom floor in 1987. I was six years old, fueled by a curiosity that probably drove my mother to the brink of madness. She would work hard to buy me the latest electronic toys, only for me to have them dismantled within hours.
I wasn't destroying them; I was searching for the logic inside. I spent my childhood harvesting motors, lights, and batteries salvaged from the "donors" my mother had bought me. Using Lego and Meccano, I would build my own inventions, experimenting with how components interacted. By 1993, at just twelve years old, I had my first major triumph: my sister’s Hi-Fi had fallen off a cabinet, snapping the main circuit board clean in two. I sat for hours, meticulously tracing and bridging every single one of the 112 broken connections to restore the signal path. When it powered back up, I knew this was my calling.
Even as a child, I was looking at the world and wondering why it hadn't caught up to the potential of electronics. I remember sitting with my Casio pocket TV, looking inside and seeing that it wasn't a bulky CRT tube, but a flat LCD screen. I couldn't understand why we weren't just making those screens larger to hang on our walls—years before flat-screen TVs became a reality. I’d play with my RC cars and wonder why the "real" cars on the road weren't powered by rechargeable batteries and electric motors instead of engines.
Now, in 2026, as the world moves toward full electric vehicle integration, I look back and realize I had that fundamental understanding of our electrical future before I had even left school.
In 1998, I officially began my electrical training. I didn’t just want to pass; I wanted to master the craft. I earned a Distinction for my work, treating every installation with a level of pride that made a standard distribution board look like a work of art. But the "bricks and mortar" world of house wiring eventually felt too static. I needed to get back to the heart of electronics.
The most defining chapter of my life began in 2009. I was at rock bottom, eating from food banks and struggling to survive, but my mind was still racing with ambition. I was fiercely independent and resourceful. I found an old, broken laptop in a skip, brought it home, and fixed it. On that salvaged machine, I spent thousands of hours teaching myself Web Development, SEO, and the intricacies of business management.
While living on benefits, I made a choice that most would find impossible: I spent every penny of my benefit money on professional electrical testing equipment and an embroidered uniform. I chose to invest in my future over my comfort. That sacrifice was the spark that ignited five successful businesses. I grew that first testing company from nothing into a thriving venture, which led to my third business—a specialized Mobile Electronics & Micro-Repair Centre—right as the iPhone 4 revolution began. I performed "digital surgery" on micro-components for years, but by the time the iPhone 8 arrived in 2017, the market had become saturated. I knew it was time to sell up and find my true home: the water.
In 2017, I moved onto a fiberglass cruiser. This was my entry point into boat electrics; I saw the market for electric conversions coming. I spent years on the tools, crawling into cramped electrical cupboards and engine rooms to design systems that allowed for total independence from the grid. I mastered 12V, 24V, and 48V DC systems, lithium chemistries, and MPPT solar harvesting.
In 2024, I got my first narrowboat—my current 57ft home. This was the turning point. Living on the canals changed my perspective; I began to see the world in a more relaxed way, no longer wanting to chase money and fame in the "rat race." I wanted to enjoy the peaceful life I had worked so hard to build.
In July 2025, while sitting relaxing on my boat, I had a simple but powerful thought: How nice would it be to have my horn right here on my tiller? By September 2025, that idea had evolved into TillerBuddy™.
I have officially put down the heavy tools for big electrical contracts. I am now an inventor, a business strategist, and a traveler. My focus is entirely on evolving the TillerBuddy™ ecosystem at a nice, chilled pace. My 57ft narrowboat is my home, my office, and my workshop—powered entirely by the sun and the very systems I spent a lifetime perfecting.
I’m living proof that you can be fully powered, fully in control, and fully relaxed. If you see me moored up, come say hi—I’m always ready to talk shop or show you how TillerBuddy™ can change your journey.

Founder | Principal Systems Engineer | Business Strategist
A disciplined electrical engineer and serial entrepreneur with a career spanning from the analog era of the late 1980s to the cutting-edge lithium and wireless integrations of today. My trajectory is defined by a fiercely independent and resourceful mindset—beginning with self-taught engineering on salvaged equipment and growing into the management of five distinct business ventures.
The Entrepreneurial Engine: Business Management & Strategy
Active Business Leadership since 2009 Starting from zero, I built a foundation of business mastery through sheer determination and thousands of hours of self-directed research. I have successfully founded and operated five separate businesses, managing every vertical of their operations:
Bootstrapped Origins: Launched my first venture in 2009 (Electrical Testing) using equipment funded by personal sacrifice and a laptop salvaged from a skip, which I repaired to teach myself Web Development, SEO, and Digital Marketing.
Full-Scale Operations: Mastery of all business aspects: managing technical teams and staff, overseeing project lifecycles, and direct handling of P&L and financial growth.
Digital & Brand Growth: Expert in Web Development and SEO, personally building the digital infrastructure for all five ventures to ensure market dominance in niche sectors.
