Every Tiller Should Have a Buddy by its Side (Made by a Boater for the Boater)
The TillerBuddy Horn is a simple, plug-and-play, rechargeable accessory designed to work wirelessly with any TillerBuddy V1 Hub, v1, v3 and Build-a-Buddy Kits
None (Standard screw/bolt for mounting horn unit).
Ensure the unit is charged before initial use.
Securely mount the TillerBuddy Horn unit in the desired location (e.g., cabin roof, engine room).
Ensure the unit is charged via the supplied charging cable.
Note: The TillerBuddy Horn is pre-programmed to work with your existing TillerBuddy Hub and v3 controller. The unit remains in standby 24/7, ready for immediate activation.
The unit is plug-and-play. If the horn does not sound when activated by your Buddy controller:
Check the transmitter battery or contact us direct.
The "Always-Ready" Standby System To ensure your horn is ready to blast the moment you press the button, the internal receiver stays in a 24/7 "Active Listening" mode. This provides instant response but does create a small, constant draw on the battery.
Standby Expectations: From a full charge, the Horn unit will remain in standby for approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
The Pre-Departure Check: We strongly recommend checking the horn's power status as part of your pre-departure checklist. If your boat has been idle for more than two weeks, the unit may require a top-up.
BoatyBuoyBen’s Recommendation: For total peace of mind, we recommend bringing the horn unit inside to charge via USB-C the night before you set off on a journey.
Pro-Tip for Liveaboards & Continuous Cruisers: If you prefer not to remove the horn from its mounting, you can use a standard high-capacity USB-C Power Bank to "top-up" the unit in situ. This is a great way to maintain your safety equipment without needing to run engine power or move the device.
As a Boaty Buoy Boats product, the TillerBuddy is hand-crafted and tested for reliability. Should you encounter any issues, please check the points below or contact us directly.
Symptom: Horn does not sound.
Solution: Check the battery charge level on the TillerBuddy transmitter v1, v3.
Symptom: Horn sounds intermittently.
Solution: Ensure both the TillerBuddy Horn and the Buddy controller are fully charged and in range.
Symptom: Horn does not sound.
Solution: First, ensure the Horn unit itself is charged. If it has been mounted for over 3 weeks without use, the battery will likely be depleted due to the standby system. Secondly, check the battery in your v1/v3 controller.
