Most generic remotes struggle with signal strength around steel narrowboat hulls. By upgrading the internal power source from 3V to 6V, the TillerBuddy™ Strap-to-Tiller Remote Control provides a significantly stronger signal. This ensures your horn or lights trigger reliably every time, whether you are at the helm, the bow, or standing on the towpath.
A simple way to add a wireless push-button control to an existing electrical circuit without having to run a conventional switch wire between the button and the equipment.
This kit has been developed using a compact 433 MHz wireless transmitter, a stainless-steel illuminated push button and a programmable wireless relay receiver.
The result is a neat and convenient solution where running a new switch wire is difficult, impractical, time-consuming or simply undesirable.
The wireless push-button/transmitter is battery powered, so there is no need to run a power cable to the button.
The receiver is installed at the equipment you want to control and is connected to a suitable 5–24V DC supply. Its relay provides COM / NO / NC contacts for interfacing with the switching circuit of the equipment being controlled. The receiver is commonly rated at 10A maximum relay contact load.
Imagine you have a piece of equipment at the back of a vehicle, boat or machine, but your switch is at the dashboard or control panel.
Normally, you would have to run a switching wire all the way between the two.
That can mean:
Removing trim
Accessing difficult areas
Drilling holes
Routing cables through bulkheads
Running wires through a boat
Removing interior panels
Trying to access existing wiring
Or simply dealing with a wiring fault that is difficult to trace
This kit can eliminate the need for that long switching wire.
Install the wireless button where you want it and the receiver near the equipment.
Press the button → wireless signal is transmitted → receiver operates its relay → equipment switching circuit is activated.
This is the ideal option for a new installation.
You receive a stainless-steel illuminated push button which has been paired with a specially modified wireless transmitter.
The transmitter is housed behind the button and has its own internal miniature 12V battery.
The button therefore requires no wired power supply.
When the button is pressed:
1. The button illuminates
2. The transmitter sends the wireless signal
3. The receiver receives the signal
4. The receiver operates its relay
5. The relay switches the customer's equipment circuit
The receiver can then be installed close to the equipment being controlled.
This is one of the most useful applications of the system.
Already have a button installed but the original switching circuit has failed?
Or perhaps the original switch wire is inaccessible, damaged or impossible to replace?
You may not need to replace the button at all.
This version supplies the wireless transmitter and receiver only, together with the appropriate connector harness.
The transmitter harness is designed to connect directly to the terminals of a suitable existing push button.
This allows the customer's existing button to become the input for the wireless transmitter.
Existing button → wireless transmitter → RF signal → receiver → equipment
This can be particularly useful where:
An existing switch wire has failed
A cable has become damaged
Access to the wiring is extremely difficult
A new cable cannot practically be installed
The customer wants to avoid dismantling the vehicle/boat/machinery
The existing button is already installed in a convenient location
Keep your existing button and replace the troublesome wiring with a wireless link.
One of the major advantages of the receiver used in this system is that the operating mode can be programmed using the receiver's built-in learning button.
Press and hold the button:
Relay ON
Release the button:
Relay OFF
Ideal for applications such as:
Horns
Triggers
Actuators
Solenoids
Winch controls
Other equipment that should operate only while the button is pressed
Press the button once:
Relay ON
Press it again:
Relay OFF
Ideal for:
Lights
Pumps
Fans
Auxiliary equipment
Accessories
General ON/OFF switching
The receiver family is documented as supporting momentary, toggle and latching modes, with the mode selected through the learning button.
Please note: The exact programming procedure will be supplied with the kit.
The transmitter/receiver system operates on the 433 MHz RF band.
The transmitter type used with this system is commonly specified at approximately 50 metres in open/free space.
The quoted range is an approximate maximum open-space range, not a guaranteed distance.
Actual range can vary considerably depending on:
Buildings
Vehicle bodywork
Metalwork
Bulkheads
Electrical interference
Receiver position
Battery condition
Installation environment
For normal vehicle, boat, workshop and machinery installations, the available range should generally be more than adequate.
Receiver type: 1-channel wireless RF relay receiver
RF frequency: 433 MHz
Receiver supply: 5–24V DC
Relay: Single-channel changeover relay
Relay contacts: COM / NO / NC
Relay contact rating: Up to 10A*
Operating modes: Momentary / Toggle / Latching depending on programming
Programming: Built-in learning button
Wireless range: Up to approximately 50m in open conditions
RF system: Learning-code transmitter/receiver system
The 5–24V receiver supply and 10A relay specification correspond with the widely sold receiver family used for this type of application.
The 10A figure refers to the relay contact rating, not a recommendation that every 10A load should automatically be connected directly through the relay.
Loads such as motors, pumps, compressors, solenoids and other inductive equipment can have substantially higher starting/surge currents than their normal running current.
For higher-current or particularly inductive loads, the relay should be used to control a suitably rated secondary relay/contactor rather than carrying the full load itself.
If in doubt, please check the current requirements of your equipment before installation.
The wireless transmitter is self-powered by its internal miniature 12V battery.
There is therefore:
NO WIRED POWER SUPPLY REQUIRED AT THE PUSH BUTTON.
This is one of the main advantages of the system.
The receiver requires a suitable:
5–24V DC power supply
at the location where the receiver is installed.
The relay contacts are then connected to the appropriate switching circuit of the equipment being controlled.
The stainless-steel push button features an illuminated ring.
The illumination is linked to the transmitter's indicator circuit so that the button provides visual feedback when operated.
This gives the finished installation a much more professional appearance than using a separate conventional wireless key fob.
This system can be useful in a huge variety of installations, including:
Auxiliary lights
Fans
Electric pumps
Horns
Solenoids
Boot/trunk releases
Electric actuators
Custom accessories
Bilge pumps
Fans
Auxiliary equipment
Lighting
Pumps
Solenoids
Custom control circuits
Auxiliary lighting
Pumps
Fans
Accessories
Remote switching applications
Pumps
Fans
Motors
Solenoids
Actuators
Auxiliary equipment
Custom control systems
Particularly useful wherever running a conventional switch cable would be difficult or inconvenient.

Required connectors/spade terminals as shown
This is a wireless switching system, not a wireless power supply.
The equipment being controlled must have its own appropriate power supply.
The receiver requires a suitable 5–24V DC supply and its relay contacts are then used to switch/control the appropriate circuit.
The wireless transmitter itself is battery powered.
This product does not eliminate the need to electrically connect the receiver to the equipment/control circuit. It eliminates the need for a physical switch wire between the remote button and receiver.
Installation should be carried out by someone competent with low-voltage electrical systems.
Always ensure the correct polarity and wiring connections are used.
The receiver should be mounted in a suitable protected location and positioned where it can receive the RF signal effectively.
Where the controlled equipment is a high-current or inductive load, use an appropriately rated secondary relay/contactor where required.
This product is intended for low-voltage control applications.
